Caring for Clip in Hair Extensions

High-quality clip-in hair extensions are great options for people who want to add hair volume and length on special occasions; but, like natural hair, proper care is no less important to prevent damage. Washing clip-in hair extensions once in a while can help them last longer and retain their natural look.

Washing hair extensions is best done with lukewarm water to prevent damage to its cuticles. Soak your extensions in lukewarm water for about a minute. Wash the extensions with shampoo, namely one that restores moisture to hair, to completely remove dirt and hair products on its strands. As hair extensions don't have roots, they don't get nourishment from the scalp like natural hair.

To prevent extensions from falling off, lather gently when shampooing. Let them soak for two to three minutes before rinsing them with lukewarm water. Conditioning hair extensions will help them last longer, but it's best to apply conditioners that don't need further rinsing. Squeeze the water out of the extensions, lay them down on a towel, and gently comb each segment so they can dry their natural curls.

Hair extensions don't need to get washed every time they're used. EThis is the case if you don't use a lot of hair products when styling them.

Get to Know Lace Front Wigs

Lace front wigs have a long history. For years, they've been crafted on a per-order basis for the theatrical industry. Generally, they were tailor-made to a person's head size and often took about 250 to 400 hours to make. Thanks to technology, the time it takes to produce this type of wig has been greatly reduced.

The wefts in the front and back of the wig, which you often see in normal wigs, are replaced by a band of lace with individual hairs tied to the cross-sections of the webbing. This band of lace would have single strands or small patches of hair knotted onto the lace, after which the lace is then sewn onto the wig. As soon as the owner receives the hairpiece, she can cut the lace back to the hairline to have the piece fit her needs.

Among the shortcomings of lace front wigs are the fragility of the wig and hairs constantly falling out. As monofilament is difficult to tie in a knot that stays tied, the hair easily unties and pulls loose the next time the wig is worn. If adhesives are used to hold the wig down, there's a chance that the adhesives will attach to the wig hair and pull it off the piece every time the adhesive is removed. Nevertheless, with this type of wig, adhesives are often necessary to achieve the perfect hairline.

Getting to Know Virgin Indian Hair

So you're looking for new hair extensions after having had your fill of, say, natural extensions from South America. As European hairstyles may not be your cup of tea and Malaysian hair a bit above your budget, virgin Indian hair can prove to be a suitable option. This is especially true if the beauty of Indian actresses such as Aishwarya Rai and Shilpa Shetty caught you by surprise.

Hair extensions suppliers vouch for the quality of virgin Indian hair because they're all natural and didn't go through any special processes. The textures range from straight to slightly wavy; as these are all-natural products, it can be hard to find Indian hair that sports deep curls. As for color, Indian hair comes in hues ranging from jet black to dark brown. The stylist knows how to blend the extensions in case your natural hair color is different.

Maintaining virgin Indian extensions is like taking care of your own natural hair. You have to brush it and wash it with shampoo and conditioner regularly. This enables the extensions to retain their structural integrity.

Virgin Indian hair is all-natural, but sufficient care will make them last. It can also add an extra layer of radiance.

Distinguishing between Remy and Non-Remy Hair

Different types of hair extensions are available on the market, and the most sought after retain the cuticle or waxy layer that protects the hair strand. Remy hair extensions retain their cuticles, while other low-cost hair extensions have been stripped of their cuticles. You don't need a microscope to determine whether or not the wefts still have their cuticles; hair extensions that retain their cuticles feel smooth to the touch, unlike other extensions, which are rough.

While this was the case in the past, smooth hair is no longer an exclusive trait of Remy hair. A number of non-Remy hair extensions are smooth to the touch thanks to a silicone bath that replaces the cuticle that was stripped from the hair. The difference is often evident once the extensions are bonded onto the client's hair. Once the client washes their hair along with the extensions, the silicone gets washed off and the hair will start to feel rough and dry.

If you want nothing short of natural Remy hair, don't believe everything you see in the extension market. A good indicator of authenticity is the so-called jumping test; non-Remy hair is too heavy to move as the person jumps. Remy hair extensions, on the other hand, will react like natural hair. Indeed, Remy hair extensions often look so natural that people won't realize that you have extensions.

More Than Just A Hair Accessory: Remy Hair Extensions As An Alternative Solution To Hair Loss

"Accidents, diseases, and other unfortunate instances can rob women off of their crowning glories, along with their self-esteem. And while surgeries offer permanent solutions, not everyone is up for the whole process, not to mention the amount to pay for it. These days, however, they can revel in having hair once again, thanks to hair extensions. The Indo-Asian News Service sees hair extensions as an alternative, yet temporary, solution to people suffering from hair loss. More that just a hair accessory, Remy hair extensions will make their hair look voluminous and help them regain their lost self-confidence. However, according to trichologist Apoorva Shah, people should go only to salons offering hair extension installation to make sure that the whole process is handled with utmost care and expertise as there are consequences involved in mishandling the chemicals used in the attachment process, or they can go with clip-on attachments."

Due Caution Needed Before Considering Having A Hair Weave

"Hair weaving is one way to add volume to your hair. But before having it, there are important factors to consider first. Former model, Cipriana, recalls her past experiences with hair weaving in an interview with lifestyle blog, Urban Bush Babes. Good thing though, after the continuous bout with scalp-related disorders, her natural hair pulled through just fine. It is women's nature to want to look fabulous every time, and wearing a certain hairstyle might just create their preferred effect in all kinds of occasions. Going for a hair weave, however, requires a lot of contemplating. First, think how it would affect your looks. After that, study the right type that's most suited to your natural hair. Cipriana also suggests that the extensions should have wefts of appropriate bulk. This will take your hair's strand size, density, and porosity to prevent hair loss due to the weight of the weaved extensions. Combine right knowledge with quality hair extensions and you are good to go.

Her hair extensions got entangled in an exhaust fan which made her bodyguard go up the stage and cut them off. Wool, Flour, and Virgin Hair: Wigs and the Test of Time

Men and women always devote extra time styling their hair thus the mere thought of losing them is unimaginable. Today, wigs and hair extensions are pieces of vanity and self-esteem boosters anyone can use to make their crowing glory even more stylish.

The use of wigs have been traced as early as Ancient Egypt, when people shaved their heads for easier cleaning compared to having a head full of hair. Most Egyptians would wear locks of hair or similar looking materials like wool or leaf fibers held together by beeswax. Everyone—rich or poor—had wigs, but it was usually the upper-class women who owned large wigs of different styles; noble women are the only ones who could own long “goddress” wigs.

Hair was considered sacred to both ancient Greeks and Romans, and cutting or cleaning it followed a ceremony. For those, who had problems with their hair, wearing wigs became a great way to hide it. Julius Caesar, for example, wore a wig to hide his baldness. Wigs became so popular that by the 17th century those who cannot afford wigs in France wore their own hair but tried to make it look like a wig. .

Used for vanity, costumes, or to hide embarrassing hair conditions, wigs have survived the tests of time and continue to be patronized to this day. Made with synthetic hair, real human hair, or even untouched and untreated virgin human hair, wigs have changed just as much as other fashion accessories have.

Frequently Asked Questions about Hair

The bundle of hair on your head has a lot of amazing facts to tell. Want to know all about them? Read on.

Hair is made of dead cells. Live hair cells are generated inside follicles (pore-like structures within the scalp) by the papilla. As new cells emerge, the older cells die and are forced out of the follicle toward the scalp. These dead cells are more popularly known as keratin. Your fingernails are made of keratin, too.

What does hair do?

Your hair is your crowning glory and it's most important function is to enhance your beauty. You can color, style, perm, or trim it according to the style that best complements your facial features. However, hair is more than just for aesthetics. For instance, hair on your eyebrows and eyelashes filter out dust to make you see better. Nose hair cleans the air you breathe and warms it before it enters your body.

Why does hair differ from person to person?

The natural color and type of hair depends on the person's genes. The percentage of natural coloring determines whether it will be blond, black, brown, or red. The appearance of the hair, whether its curly, wavy or straight is also based on genetics.

What your hair says about you

Did you know that your hair can reveal what you eat, the ethnic group you belong to, even the lifestyle you live, to some extent? Your hair can tell if you smoke, drink, or take drugs. Your hair reveals a lot about you so never take it for granted.

Tips on Choosing Your Type of Hair Extension

When done right, hair extensions can be an excellent way to accessorize your crowning glory. To get the perfect look for you, there are many things that you need to consider such as the texture of your original hair and its color.

First, determine which style would best suit your hair—Brazilian, Peruvian, or European. If you have curly hair, then choose an extension that will easily match it. If, on the other hand, you have straight hair, pick an extension that you can easily style so you can try different looks.

Next, think about your hair color and determine which hues compliment it. You might want to make your extension resemble your hair color as closely as possible. This makes it look very natural and not at all like a wig. If you want different colors however, opt for a highlighted one instead, using subtle colors that will not draw too much attention to the extension.

Length is another important factor to consider, and comfort plays a large role here as much as aesthetics. If you are accustomed to wearing it short but want a long extension for a change, you may want a length that's between short and very long. This way the transition wouldn't be too much.
